Mallorca, with its stunning landscapes, Mediterranean charm, and year-round sunshine, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in Europe. Whether you’re dreaming of a beachside ceremony, a rustic countryside celebration, or a chic city affair, this Balearic island offers endless possibilities to create the wedding of your dreams. In this ultimate guide, you will find everything you need to get married on this magical island.
Why Choose Mallorca for Your Wedding
Mallorca is not just a place; it’s a mood, an experience, and a magical backdrop for any wedding. The island is a perfect blend of beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, vibrant city life, and serene countryside.
Here are some reasons why Mallorca is the ideal wedding destination:
- Diverse Venues: From beach resorts to large fincas, modern villas to historic castles, the island offers a wide range of venues to suit your wedding style.
- Stunning Scenery: The Mediterranean Sea, rolling hills, rugged cliffs, and lush gardens create an unparalleled natural backdrop.
- Great Weather: With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Mallorca is a top choice for outdoor weddings, especially from May to October.
- Rich Culture: Mallorca is steeped in history, and its charming towns and villages provide an authentic cultural experience.
- Accessibility: Major international airports in Palma make it easy for guests to travel from anywhere in the world. Also with direct flights from the US now, Mallorca has become even more of a hot spot.
Legal Requirements for Getting Married in Mallorca
While Mallorca is a beautiful place to tie the knot, there are a few legal requirements you need to consider before your big day.
For a Civil Ceremony:
- Residency: You do not need to be a resident of Spain to get married in Mallorca, but you must spend at least three consecutive days on the island before the ceremony.
- Documents Needed:
- Valid passport or national identity card
- Birth certificates (translated into Spanish)
- Proof of marital status (e.g., divorce certificate or death certificate if applicable)
- Proof of address (e.g., utility bill)
- A certificate of no impediment (stating that you are free to marry), which can be obtained from your home country’s embassy or consulate in Spain.
For a Religious Ceremony:
- Catholic Weddings: If you’re opting for a traditional Catholic ceremony, you’ll need to contact a local priest and follow the religious requirements, which may include pre-marriage courses.
- Other Religious Ceremonies: Other religious ceremonies, such as Jewish or Protestant, are also possible but typically require permission from the specific religious institution and additional paperwork.
I find that most of my couples have their legal ceremony in their country of residence and have a symbolic ceremony in Mallorca.

WHAT’S THE BEST TIME TO GET MARRIED IN MALLORCA FOR PERFECT WEATHER?
There isn’t really a right answer to this question, because even November in Mallorca can be a magical time of year- the tourists leave, the sea is warm and the island has a more serene feeling to it. The most popular time to get married in Mallorca is April/May/June and September/October. But there is no hard and fast rule, as long as you bear in mind if you get married during the peak summer months it is going to be really hot at mid day and you should plan your timeline accordingly- your photographer and/or planner will help you with this to work with the light through-out your wedding to ensure you and your guests are still comfortable and of course you get those golden hour photographs you have been dreaming of.

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue
One of the hardest decisions when planning a wedding in Mallorca is choosing the venue. The island offers a broad selection, each with its own atmosphere. Here are some of the most popular types of wedding venues in Mallorca:
Mallorca is an idyllic destination for couples looking for a wedding venue that aligns with their dreams for a truly memorable celebration. The island boasts a wide variety of breathtaking locations, each with its own distinct atmosphere and charm. Whether you envision exchanging vows on a sun-kissed beach with the soothing sound of waves in the background, celebrating amidst the serenity of olive groves and vineyards in the countryside, or hosting a lavish affair in a historic mansion or villa, Mallorca offers something for every couple.
From elegant Finca estates tucked away in the peaceful countryside to modern, chic venues perched on cliffs with panoramic views of the Mediterranean, the choices are as diverse as they are stunning. For couples who crave the vibrancy of city life, Palma provides grand historic landmarks and sleek, contemporary settings. At the same time, the island’s charming villages, such as Deià and Sóller, offer intimate and secluded locations perfect for a more private and personal wedding experience.
Depending on the location, try to visit the venue before signing on the dotted line. No amount of pictures, videos, or reviews can give you the full experience especially as it relates to weather.
Google your venue name and “wedding” to find any blog features, photographer websites, or images of weddings at the venue to get a better picture of what the overall feeling and vibe of the venue is like for a real wedding.
Check the venue’s Geotag on Instagram to see real photos of weddings at the venue you are viewing.

Wedding Planning Tips for Mallorca
Planning a wedding abroad can be a challenge, but with the right preparation, your Mallorca wedding will be smooth sailing. Here are some tips to make the process easier:
- Hire a Wedding Planner: A wedding planner will be invaluable in helping you navigate the logistics, legalities, and language barrier. They can recommend vendors, assist with paperwork, and ensure that everything runs smoothly on the big day.
- Think About Transportation: If you’re having a destination wedding, make sure to arrange transport for your guests. Mallorca is an island, so consider renting buses, coaches, or even private shuttles to take guests from the airport to the venue.
- Consider Local Cuisine: One of the highlights of a Mallorca wedding is the delicious local food. Incorporate traditional Spanish dishes like paella, tapas, or almond-based desserts into your menu for an authentic touch.
- Stay for the Honeymoon: Mallorca is the perfect honeymoon destination, offering everything from luxury resorts to quiet, romantic getaways. Many couples opt to extend their stay after the wedding for a relaxing post-celebration retreat.

If you are planning to have a very simple wedding with limited suppliers then you could plan a wedding in Mallorca without a planner or coordinator. For a larger wedding that has more variables, I personally would recommend hiring a planner, especially in a foreign country. Also hiring a stylist will truly elevate your wedding.

HOW LONG DO YOU NEED TO PLAN A WEDDING IN MALLORCA?
This is a tricky one! Most people book 9-24 months ahead of their wedding date, but honestly some of my favourite weddings have been the last minute ones! If you are not attached to a particular date (A Saturday in June for example) then think about a weekday if you do have a shorter lead time.
Mallorca is a really popular island to get married so you want to ensure your dream suppliers are available- a longer lead time might help with this.
Enjoy the process!
